The barren and bleak mountain landscape of Johnny Boyle’s native Donegal is his major theme and he is continually seeking new ways to express his feelings for this textural landscape. Another recurring theme is the exciting abstract quality of the colours and shapes of the local fishing ports of Burtonport and Killybegs. His paintings are done in the studio, often from the memory of a particular aspect of weather or light that remains filed away in his mind until he sketches his ideas down on paper.
Below are some of Johnny’s more recent works. The gallery is constantly changing, so do check back regularly. Please click on any of the images below to expand.
Framing is entirely personal, and depends on the location the painting will hang. Different frames accentuate different aspects of the painting, so we will always discuss the best framing and mounting options for you before you buy. Do get in touch to discuss your favourite painting.
